OCA Ostomy Care Associate Program Autumn 2020

UPMC ET/WOC Nurse Professional Development Team is proud to present the Ostomy Care Associate (OCA®) Program; an educational program provided by the WOCN® Society and is geared toward non-specialty licensed ostomy care providers.

This continuing education program, prepares a non-WOCN certified nurse to provide optimal care for patients with ostomies and fistulas under the direction of a WOC specialty nurse, WOC APRN, or physician.

The OCA Program is for non-specialty licensed ostomy care providers, such as:

  • Licensed health care providers.
  • LPN’s/LVN’s.
  • Non-baccalaureate RN’s.
  • Baccalaureate prepared RN’s and Master-prepared APN’s who do not wish to specialize but want adequate knowledge in ostomy care.
  • Physicians and other clinicians who want adequate knowledge in ostomy care.

Upon completion of the OCA Program, you will function as an integral member of the ostomy/wound care team to support and extend the role of the WOC specialty nurse. This gives you an added skill beyond your regular licensure.

  • In addition to these valuable takeaways, any licensed nurse is eligible to earn 27.0 Continuing Education Credits upon successful completion of the program through ANCC and receive a certificate. Contact hours are only available to nurses.
  • Accreditation: The WOCN® Society is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
