Prenatal Childbirth Class with UPMC Horizon

Prenatal classes and other select programs are CANCELLED

UPMC is committed to the health and safety of our patients, visitors, and staff. To decrease potential spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and to limit traffic throughout the hospital and other classroom locations, we are discontinuing all prenatal classes and some other community education classes effective Monday, March 16, until further notice. Refunds will be processed as soon as possible. The credit card companies can take several weeks.

Instead of in-person prenatal classes, we are offering a free online learning program on childbirth preparation, breastfeeding, and newborn care. Click here to register for this free e-class. Thank you for your understanding as we work to lessen the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in our community and especially for our expectant mothers, new mothers, and infants.

This four-week course offers expectant parents insight into labor and delivery, as well as the post-partum period and newborn care. The class provides an informal and relaxed setting to encourage an exchange of questions and answers about the birth experience and what typically happens during a hospital stay. Classes are designed to inform new parents about the signs of labor, relaxation skills, comfort measures, pain management options, and breathing techniques. Mother-to-be and their support people experience hands-on practice with various comfort measures and rehearse for labor to help decrease anxiety and uncertainty about their upcoming delivery.

A hospital tour of the Birth Place is included in this course.   Instructors are Childbirth Educator certified. The cost of course is $60 and includes weekly refreshments and something for the mom-to-be given out with the last class.
