EVOC - Emergency Vehicle Operations Course

Description

EVOC - Emergency Vehicles Operation Course

As an emergency vehicle operator, you face distractions and hazards that other drivers never encounter. With the siren screaming and lights flashing, you weave around traffic and squeeze through narrow spaces all the while keeping an ever watchful eye on other vehicles and pedestrians. You concentrate on your driving while paramedics care for the patient enroute, but his condition and urgent need for added medical attention heightens your stress. It is your responsibility to reach the nearest health care facility quickly and safely.  Intense emergency driving demands expert training, and the Center for Emergency Medicine's Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC) can prepare you for the road.

EVOC is a two-day course designed for anyone interested in operating an ambulance safely and efficiently. Students will receive lecture and experience hands-on driving practice on a specially-designed course.  This course is taught with the most current VFIS curriculum.

Students will practice skills and review topics including:
- Inclement weather driving
- Parallel parking
- Safe backing practices and standard hand signals
- Emergency vehicle crash scenarios
- Controlling intersections
- Potential hazards of off-road driving

This course has been approved for 12.5 hours of continuing education credits.
